(Infodefensa.com) Caracas - Venezuelan Air Force has closed the acquisition agreement of eight medium tactical transport aircraft Shaanxi Y-8 made in China, a lower order officially announced 10 to 12 units.

The acquisition, credit confirmed by sources quoted by local newspaper Notitarde takes place after starting the negociocianes started in December 2010, when Major General Aviation, Major General Pernia Jorge Arevalo Oropeza said the Y-8 would complement the C-130H Hercules aircraft Americans, whose operation is affected by the refusal of the United States Government to enable the supply of spare parts.

The Y-8 is a Chinese development of Soviet aircraft Antonov An-12 whose design dates from the decade of the sixties which is manufactured in China since 1981. It's powered by four turboprop engines that the original model, allow a maximum speed of 660 km and a distance of 5,615 km. Is capable of carrying 20 tons of cargo or about 96 soldiers.

Since 2005, the Venezuelan Air Force has been equipping itself with material of Chinese origin. Is the case of 18 combat training aircraft and ten K-8W long-range mobile radars, seven JYL-1 model and three JY-11B. It is also planned to purchase fighter J-10 and an additional batch of seven K-8W.
